The Ashes is a test series which is played between England and Australia. Its regarded as the team who won the recent test series.

History[]

Origins[]

It originated in 1882 wherein the only test at England, was a low scoring match. After Australia scored 63 in the first innings, England took a 38 run lead in the game when they scored 101. Australia managed 122 with Hugh Massie top scoring with 55 from 60 balls which meant that England needed 85 runs to win the game. Fred Spofforth taking six wickets to put England needing 10 runs from their last wicket partnership. Ted Peate only scored two, with him being bowled by Harry Boyle. The crowd was silent as they couldn't believe that their team lost to a colony on home soil. Ashes were then born.

England dominated the early time with the team winning 10 of the 11 series with the only one that didn't win being in the 1891-92 series when Australia won the opening two tests with Lyon scoring the only century in the series for Australia. Then in 1897-98 the swing started to turn with Australia going on a 4 series streak which also included the 4-1 victory at home in 1901-02.
