The South American Championship of Champions was a football tournament that was played in the late 1940s and was the first club continental wide tournament in the history of football and some would say as a pre-cursor to the modern day Copa Libertadores.

In late 1946, the head executives of Nacional, put up some ideas for a CONMEBOL wide tournament featuring the best clubs from the region. The proposal which initially had runner-ups also competing was shut down with five teams competing in a round robin style tournament to see who was the best of the best. The champion would be Nacional from Uruguay after they won three from four to take out the title from Sao Paulo
