The FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship is an international volleyball competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body.

History

The history of the World Championship began as the sport was starting to turn professional. Once FIVB was formed, the first goal was to set up an international competition from more than one continent. In 1949, the first World Championship was played in Czechoslovakia between ten European teams with the Soviet Union taking out the first two titles. The next edition in the Soviet Union, would see the first Asian teams enter with Lebanon and India both entering the competition.
